Allergen information

We want everyone to enjoy Rassam's, so we've tried to make it easy to understand what goes into our desserts. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please read this page and speak to our team before you order. Every time.

Important

All of our products may contain traces of nuts and peanuts.

Our desserts are freshly prepared in busy, open kitchens where all 14 major allergens may be present, including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, gluten and soya. We train our teams in allergen handling, follow strict hygiene and food safety procedures, and do everything we reasonably can to keep ingredients apart.

Even so, we share equipment, surfaces, scoops and serving areas, and many of our ingredients come from suppliers who handle allergens too. So we cannot guarantee that any of our products are free from any allergen. If you have a severe allergy, please think carefully before eating with us.

Ordering with an allergy

Three steps, every time.

01

Tell us first

Let a team member know about your allergy or intolerance before you order, even if you’ve ordered the same thing before.

02

Ask to see the info

Every store keeps full allergen information for each item on the menu. Our team will go through it with you.

03

If in doubt, leave it out

If you’re unsure about a product, please don’t eat it. Your safety matters more to us than any sale.

The 14 allergens

What to look out for.

UK law names 14 major allergens that food businesses must tell you about. Here's each one and how it relates to our menu. The ones in pink are used in our kitchens every day.

01

Milk

In our ice cream, shakes, cream, chocolate, cheesecakes and most sauces. Found across almost the whole menu.

02

Cereals containing gluten

Wheat flour in our waffles, crêpes, pancakes, cakes, donuts, churros, cookie dough and biscuit toppings.

03

Eggs

In our batters, sponges, brownies, cakes and some ice cream bases.

04

Soya

In most chocolate, spreads and branded toppings, and in some of our vegan range.

05

Peanuts

Used in peanut butter desserts and toppings such as Reese’s, Snickers and Peanut M&M’s.

06

Tree nuts

Hazelnut (Nutella, Ferrero Rocher, Kinder Bueno), pistachio, almond and other nuts are used daily in our kitchens.

07

Sesame

Not a recipe ingredient, but some biscuits and toppings are made in factories that handle sesame.

08

Sulphur dioxide & sulphites

May be present in some fruit toppings, syrups and drinks.

09

Celery

Not used in our recipes.

10

Mustard

Not used in our recipes.

11

Lupin

Allergen guide

Our menu, at a glance.

A quick guide to the main allergens in each part of our menu. It covers whole ranges rather than single items, so please ask in store for the full details of any specific dessert or drink.

Nuts & peanuts

Some of our favourites are made with nuts.

Hazelnut spreads, pistachio, peanut butter and nut-based chocolate bars are a big part of our menu. They're handled in the same kitchen as everything else, which is why we treat every product as one that may contain nuts.

Dietary preferences

Halal, vegan & more.

Halal

Halal has been standard at Rassam’s since day one, and our stores run halal-certified kitchens.

Vegan

Our vegan range is made without animal products, but it’s prepared alongside dairy, so it isn’t suitable for a milk allergy.

Gluten

Some items don’t use gluten ingredients, but flour is used in every store, so we can’t guarantee anything is gluten free.

FAQs

Your questions, answered.

Are any of your products nut free?
No. We can't describe any of our products as nut free. Peanuts and tree nuts are used throughout our kitchens every day, and many of our toppings and spreads are made by suppliers who also handle nuts. All of our products may contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts.
Do you have gluten-free options?
Some of our products, such as ice cream, sorbet and some drinks, are not made with gluten-containing ingredients. Because flour is used in our stores every day, though, we can't guarantee that any product is gluten free. We don't recommend our desserts for anyone with coeliac disease.
Is your vegan range suitable for someone with a milk allergy?
Our vegan range is made without animal products, but it's prepared in the same kitchen, with the same equipment, as our dairy desserts. It suits a vegan diet, but because of the risk of cross-contact we can't recommend it for anyone with a milk allergy.
Is Rassam’s halal?
Yes. Halal has been standard at Rassam's since day one, and our stores operate halal-certified kitchens. Halal status is about how ingredients are sourced, though. It doesn't tell you anything about allergens.
Can I ask for a topping or sauce to be left off?
Of course. Just ask when you order. But removing an ingredient doesn't make a dessert free from that allergen, because it's still made with shared equipment and in a shared space. Always tell us about your allergy as well, not just what you'd like left off.
I’m ordering through a delivery app. What should I do?
Delivery apps may not show the full, current allergen information for every item. If you have an allergy, please contact the store directly before placing your order, and add your allergy to the order notes. If you're not sure, please don't order.
Do your recipes ever change?
Yes. We regularly update our menu and occasionally change suppliers, which can change a product's allergens. That's why we ask you to check with our team every time you order, even if it's something you've had before.
